Android is a mobile OS developed by Google, based on the Linux kernel and designed for touchscreen mobile such as smartphones and tablets. Android's user interface is mainly based on direct manipulation, using touch gestures. 

In addition to touchscreen devices, Google has further developed Android TV for televisions, Android Auto for cars, and Android Wear for wrist watches, each with a specialized user interface. Variants of Android are also used on notebooks, game consoles, digital cameras, and other electronics. wikipedia

The Next Version 

While current devices are struggling to get the current Android version 6.0 (Marshmallow) google announced the next build 

Android N (7.0) Code name : Nougat 

Google decided to surprise us all by releasing the first Android N developer preview on March 9, two full months earlier than expected

Google has a web site for users to submit suggestion for the Android N code name.

Finally on JUN 30  "Nougat" was the final choice 

The final release of Android Nougat is still in beta and due later this summer
